My 8-day journey through Fuerteventura, Lobos Island, and Lanzarote was a thrilling adventure filled with natural beauty, tranquil beaches, and unforgettable moments. Here’s a glimpse into my island-hopping escapade.
Day 1-2: Arrival in Fuerteventura and Corralejo
Touching down in Fuerteventura, I was immediately struck by the island’s rugged beauty. The drive from the airport to Corralejo, where I stayed for the first two nights, was a visual treat.
My first day was spent exploring the famous Corralejo Natural Park, home to some of the most stunning dunes I’ve ever seen. The contrast between the soft, golden sand and the deep blue ocean was mesmerizing. I wandered barefoot across the dunes, soaking in the silence and the raw, untamed beauty of the landscape.
As the sun set, I headed to the town’s waterfront, where a host of seafood restaurants and bars awaited. Dinner was a feast of fresh fish and local Canarian dishes, with the sound of the waves as the perfect soundtrack.
Day 3: A Day Trip to Lobos Island
On the third day, I embarked on a short ferry ride from Corralejo to the secluded Lobos Island. This small, uninhabited island felt like a hidden paradise, untouched by time. Upon arrival, I was greeted by clear waters, rugged cliffs, and an atmosphere of complete serenity.
The island is small enough to explore in a day, and I spent the morning hiking to La Caldera, the island’s volcanic peak. The panoramic views from the top were breathtaking, with Fuerteventura and Lanzarote visible in the distance. Descending from the peak, I found myself at Playa de la Concha, a crescent-shaped beach with calm, crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Day 4-5: Southern Fuerteventura and the Jandía Peninsula
After a goodbye to Corralejo, I drove south towards the Jandía Peninsula, known for its stunning beaches and rugged landscapes. My destination was Morro Jable, a quaint fishing village that has grown into a popular resort town without losing its charm.
The beaches in this part of Fuerteventura are simply spectacular. Playa de Sotavento, with its vast expanse of golden sand and shallow lagoons, felt like it stretched on forever. I spent my time here soaking up the sun, wading through the warm waters, and marvelling at the vibrant kitesurfers who danced across the waves.
A highlight of my stay in Jandía was exploring the Jandía Natural Park. This wild and rugged area offered some incredible hiking trails, leading to secluded coves and breathtaking viewpoints. One evening, I drove to the Faro de Jandía lighthouse at the southern tip of the island, where I watched the sun dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 6: Ferry to Lanzarote and Exploring Playa Blanca
On the sixth day, I took the ferry from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote, arriving in the charming town of Playa Blanca. The ferry ride was smooth and offered stunning views of both islands.Playa Blanca, on the southern coast of Lanzarote, was the perfect place to start my exploration of this unique island. The town itself was vibrant yet relaxed, with a picturesque marina, whitewashed buildings, and a welcoming atmosphere.
I spent the afternoon at the nearby Papagayo Beaches, a series of pristine coves surrounded by volcanic cliffs. The waters here were incredibly clear, and I couldn’t resist diving in for a refreshing swim. Later, I returned to Playa Blanca for dinner, enjoying fresh seafood while watching the sun set over the marina.
Day 7: Volcanic Wonders of Timanfaya National Park
Day seven was dedicated to exploring Lanzarote’s most famous attraction, Timanfaya National Park. The drive through the park felt like a journey to another planet, with its surreal landscape of volcanic craters, lava fields, and ash-covered ground.
I took a guided tour through the park, learning about Lanzarote’s volcanic history and witnessing geothermal demonstrations showcasing the intense heat beneath the surface. The landscape was otherworldly, with its shades of black, red, and ochre stretching as far as the eye could see.In the afternoon, I visited the nearby La Geria region, known for its unique vineyards. Here, grapevines are grown in circular pits dug into the volcanic soil, protected by small stone walls. The contrast between the black volcanic soil and the green vines was striking. I sampled some of the local wine, which had a distinctive taste, shaped by the island’s unique terroir.
Day 8: Return to Fuerteventura and Farewell
On the final day of my journey, I took the ferry back to Fuerteventura, where I spent my last hours in Puerto del Rosario, the island’s capital. The town was a delightful mix of modern amenities and traditional Canarian culture. I visited some local markets, picked up a few souvenirs, and enjoyed a leisurely lunch before heading to the airport.
This 8-day adventure was more than just a holiday; it was a journey through some of the most unique and beautiful places I’ve ever visited.
